What am I doing?!

When first approached about blogging my way through a fast, I was quite interested.

When the Daniel Fast was mentioned, however, I actually used the phrase, "I like food too much." I decided I would fast something else and chronicle my way through it.

I got home that day and listened to an online devotional where the speaker said something like this:

God did the biggest thing ever in the world by giving up His Son so that we could spend eternity with Him. Why wouldn't we want to do EVERYTHING we can to honor and glorify Him?

Ouch. Food is definitely not too big to give up to draw closer to Him.

God had already spoken to me once this year about possibly doing a Daniel Fast. I used the food excuse then - and probably a bit of fear rolled in there.

But it was pretty clear to me that now was the time He wanted me to enter into this spiritual discipline - both corporately and for personal guidance as well.

So here we go.

I will be posting at least once a day about my experiences fasting as a wife, mother and average person - trying to keep it real.

Hope you will join me!

My girlfriend and I are committed to this 21-day fast. We are expecting great things as we draw closer to God. She is doing the full-bore "Daniel" fast. I am doing a variation.
I commented that in Daniel 1:15, after only 10 days, the commander of the officials observed that Daniel and his three compatriots "... their appearance seemed better ('fairer' even 'glowing') and they were fatter than all the other youths who had been eating the King's choice food."
I said to my girlfried "You may be fatter at the end of this 21-day fast" (she is slim, athletic, has a great sense of humor ... and is beautiful).
She said "Well, fatter is ok ...... as long as I'm 'glowing'."

  2. I don't think I have ever done a fast like this. I am rather excited to see what God does, within Christ's Place as well as within me.

  3. My husband and I have never fasted for an extended period of time together!

Tomorrow we leave for Colorado for a few days of quiet solitude and alone time together and with God. For him to give up meat is HUGE! Did I say huge? I mean really HUGE!!!

But we knew this was what God had called us to do the first time we heard Pastor Rick talk about it six months ago.

Here we are fasting, praying and ever so excited for what God is going to do through us in these days and months to come!
