It's hard not to focus on the food.
Such is our life in America, and we don't realize it so much until we take that food away.
We're one week in now. If you're doing the Daniel Fast or any other food fast, you may have experienced the headaches and weakness already. About now, you're getting frustrated with what you CAN'T eat.
That's where we need to make it easier on ourselves. Not the fasting, but providing nourishment to our bodies so we can function.
One of the main concerns in doing the Daniel Fast is that so many convenience foods are not allowed, so you may spend significantly more time preparing food or researching recipes.
So how can we take this focus off food and put it back on Him?
How about praying while you prepare that food? Use that time to soak in His presence, as Danette mentioned in her devotional today, or to seek His will for that day. Chopping veggies and waiting for water to boil are great mindless activities that could be filled with prayer or worship instead of nothing!
Also, taking time at the beginning of your week to prepare and portion out some fast-friendly snacks will help you as the week goes on. I like to make sure I have some nuts and dried fruit on hand to grab for a quick, filling snack in the middle of the morning or afternoon.
This fast should NOT be about the food, but when you are doing something completely out of the ordinary, this is much easier said than done.
Continue to seek Him more than you seek new recipes and He will give you the strength to carry on...
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. ~Philippians 4:13 (NLT)
